The King is one of three 9-hole golf courses located at the Palmer Course. With each round, Members enjoy a versatile test of skill as well as lush Texas scenery. Shot shaping will help you navigate this course, with its doglegs, sloping fairways, and intricate bunkers guarding the greens.

 

During his career, Arnold Palmer earned the nickname of “The King,” due to his achievements on and off the course. As a golf course architect and through Arnold Palmer Design Company, Palmer created over 300 courses in his career, including the three 9-hole tracks at The Woodlands Country Club.

The opening hole is a dogleg right par 4 where drives need to stay right of the fairway bunker on the left. The approach shot into the well-guarded green typically play longer than the yardage indicates.

Pro Tips

This par 5 places a premium on setting up a solid third shot. The best play is to avoid the temptation to get close to the green in two, as a full wedge has a better chance of getting close.

The tee shot on this par 4 requires players to take their ball as far right as they’re comfortable. An uphill second shot that plays longer than the yardage awaits. The green will feed balls back to the right.

A right-to-left ball flight is the ideal shape off the tee on this par 4. The green slopes from front-to-back, making it difficult to get the ball close on the approach.

The final par 5 on this nine provides players a good opportunity to be aggressive. Drives should stay down the right side of the fairway in order to have a chance at reach the green in two. Favoring the right side with an approach will benefit players, as the green slopes from left-to-right.
